3-Wide Mill

Original Deck Created: 15th July

v1.1 - 1st August

v1.2 - 5th August

Inspiriation: (http://swdestinydb.com/decklist/view/27414)

Built in the likeness of my previous deck, Lor San Tekka returns alongside Anakin and his new Spark of Hope droid companion, C-3PO (taking the place of Leia) in this new 3-wide Rainbow Mill deck.

This deck brings about the same mill potential as my previous deck with a few key changes, which I'll outline below.

Characters

Let's start with the biggest change to the original deck:

C-3PO

Anakin's protocol droid joins the team and brings a number of advantages (and disadvantages) over Leia:

Advantages:

  • His ability is a pseudo-Motivate, opening up more card options
  • Coming in Elite means we have a 5-die start, enabling Vandalize against Support/Upgrade Decks
  • Fateful Companions allows resolution of 2 dice, speeding up the deck and introducing Hit and Run-like tactics

Disadvantages:

  • No actual -sides/Mill potential by himself (unless loaded up with Force Meditation or Bartering)
  • 8 Health can be easily spiked against an aggressive deck running Tactical Mastery or Seize the Day
  • Without R2-D2, his ability can become expensive (especially since it isn't optional to spend the )

Lor San Tekka

No surprises with Tekka - once again, he is the foundation of this deck with his relevant die sides.

Normal sequencing of play usually looks like this:

  1. Activate Tekka as your first activation and show either or
  2. Activate C-3PO, using his ability to either resolve the 1 for 2, or using the to turn Tekka's 2nd die to a and resolving through Fateful Companions for +1

If you don't get or on either character, that's okay - resolving or also helps to further our game plan.

Anakin

Once again, a great filler character, providing us access to Yellow and synergy with his Podracer. Also another target for Fateful Companions to help focus his Podracer, C-3PO and/or R2-D2

  • Anakin is our money-maker - it's not uncommon to use C-3PO's ability against his to quickly set-up a very threatening board state before Round 2

Key Cards

Aside from the obvious mitigation suite (such as Beguile and Easy Pickings), I want to address some key cards that 'make or break' the deck.

Anakin Skywalker's Podracer - An obvious staple for Hero Mill, but even more potent with C-3PO.

  • Once activated (and turned to it's using Anakin), use C-3PO to resolve it's for 3!.
  • If you're in a rush, don't bother activating Anakin to turn the Podracer die - activate C-3PO and hope to get a for a quick resolution
  • This is an excellent play if you see your opponent amassing s for an Entourage or Vader's Fist

Clever Distraction - Most often we are using it's "Discard the top 2 cards of a deck" ability.

R2-D2 - the little blue droid makes his return in Support form!

  • The character (R2-D2) doesn't help our mill power as we have enough focus.
  • His is great to draw into more mitigation, and help to chain into Force Meditation or Force Jump
  • Obviously he is also here to help enable C-3PO and Fateful Companions
  • Not uncommon to use C-3PO and increase his or
  • Can be focussed with Anakin's ability

Bartering - Another staple for Mill with a that can help use all our available sides

  • By forcing a draw, we enable No Answer after the opponent has claimed
  • Place this upgrade on Tekka or Anakin to have more targets for C-3PO's ability

Mulligan

We are looking for a couple of important pieces to our gameplan, listed in priority of importance:

If we find both, keep them! We can do with one or the other, but R2-D2 takes precedence to ensure we get the most value from C-3PO's ability and Fateful Companions

Helps to get the Mill started as early as possible. If we don't find it, Clever Distraction can work in it's place in the first round

Everything mentioned above needs s to work - put this on Anakin and get the money flowing!

  • Any cheap mitigation

Easy Pickings, Hidden Motive, Pacify - any will do

Cards to Consider

This deck makes a surprising amount of , and Strength Through Weakness could help to mill a lot quicker. Would replace Vandalize, as a 1-of each

The new Hyperspace Jump! A staple in past mill decks. Could have a place in this deck to ensure the final round mill. However, is at risk of not working if Desperate Measures becomes prominent and we lose our Podracer

A great downgrade to play against the biggest threat on the board (such as Maul or Darth Vader). You'd only need to control the opponent's other character so they cannot deal damage to their big character and remove it. However, s can be a powerful ramp for most decks, with the risk of seeing some big upgrades or supports hitting the table.

Changes

v1.1

Senate Chamber for Mechanical Insight

To hard muligan all five starting cards and not get either Anakin's Podracer or R2-D2 felt really bad. The deck hinges on getting either of these two pieces.

Start Your Engines! is another option to guarantee the Podracer, but R2-D2 is definitely the better of the two options. Also, if Mechanical Insight doesn't reveal either card, you're effectively pushing those five cards to the bottom of the deck, allowing you to see up to the next five cards in the following draw.

v1.2

Force Jump for Lore Hunter

Force Jump works well when we can guarentee the quickly but would work better if we had Yoda instead of Tekka - R2-D2's helped in that way, but it never felt consistent.

Lore Hunter on the other hand, quickens our gameplan, provides hand knowledge, and if put on C-3PO, could force them to draw another card before increasing a
