Opening hand look for:

Scout or Promotion placing it either on Ackbar or a trooper.

Use Gaurdian to take away dice that could get modified.

do not get greedy on damage, take resources liberally as they give you lots of play options later in the game.

I use Natural Talent on Ackbar's sides to get 3 focus, or on sides for just a little extra oomph. particularly on the Rebel Trooper's 2 side.

I've played Defensive Position and found the card too situational. Pushed back into Dodge for those big ranged turns. If your meta goes consider going with Block instead.

It's a Trap! is weaker in melee matchups but don't be afraid to shift your dice to sides for mid to late game money.

It is possible to play Launch Bay turn one with either Promotion or Scout.
