Listen, I know what you're thinking. Those FN/Kylo decks are better. 4 dice vs. 3. Obvious choice right? You're wrong. I'm sorry, but you're wrong. Here's why:

  1. Grievous' single die is more consistent than FN's two dice, and the damage/cost ratio is better. Not only that, you won't be wasting time on different symbol resolutions (extra shield/resource and the stupid one ranged on FN being the culprits).
  2. Grievous isn't the point. Kylo is. Kylo's the workhorse of this combo, that's why Feint and Leadership work so well in this deck. You also won't feel bad early on using leadership to reset Kylo, exhausting a 1 die Grievous. The trade is worth it.
  3. Redeploy weapons are meaningless to this deck. Oh, you have a Z6 Riot Control Baton? Grievous thanks you for your contribution. Lightsaber? Yoink. By the time Kylo does go down (if your opponent survives the ridiculous damage curve) Grievous is so lethal he'll easily one shot most characters. I have only lost Kylo twice in regular game play, and both times a riot baton'd Grievous carried me to victory.
  4. This deck is fast, and focused. Don't waste time with the gimmicks (FN I'm looking at you). Every upgrade is 50% melee damage. Deploy, roll in, reset if you can, resolve melee, claim. That's it. Without FN's extra weapons cluttering the deck you even have some room for a bit of dice mitigation. Save it for the big hits though.

I've played this deck numerous times now, and won nearly every time. Even against big hitters, and numerous versions of Thrawnkar. I retired it so I wouldn't swamp the weekly tournament with it at the local game store. The one (yes one) time I've lost, I would call a coin toss, and would happily run the same match up again and bet on this winning. Give it a shot yourself, you'll be pleased with it.

I copied the deck and made some small changes. Esp. Imperial inspection Is Great

Erratas got you down? Guess what, no changes here. Same greatness for the same old price. Kylo/Grievous now the definitive winner. Seriously, why don't more people run this deck?

I copied this deck and made a few changes to the upgrades, but I am struggling with defending Kylo. What cards do you usually try and open with? A lot of the event cards have Spot a Blue Character which is causing my grief at the moment as Kylo is getting taken out early on in the game, leaving me with one Grievous die and no upgrades and no way to defend him.

To be honest, I focus less on keeping Kylo alive, and more on dealing enough damage to kill a character turn 1. I'll look for the Crossguard Lightsaber, Feint, or Leadership. Even better if I can get the It Binds All Things out turn one with the saber, and 'pull' into a second one on turn 2. The normal Lightsaber doesn't go down until Kylo is about dead

Ideal turn one is It Binds All Things, Crossguard Lightsaber, roll out Kylo, resolve a resource and some damage, then Leadership, and roll out Kylo for more damage. If you've got a good read on their deck, you've done 5 with just his activations and the saber, and another 4 or 5 on the rollouts is relatively easy. The nice thing is, you know the activation triggers go where you want them too, no mitigation possible.

I think it's worth noting that I don't hesitate to stack Greivous when I have the resources turn 2 or 3. He normally gets the Electrostaff, which is enough to give your opponent pause. And Makashi Training always goes on him.

If you're really worried about keeping Kylo alive, mulligan for the Force Illusion, and combo with Feint or Leadership. That way you get the 4 damage from his dual activations, plus his roll in damage. Deflect is situational, but Doubt is never a bad thing to see in this deck with the 0 cost.

In my experience with the deck, the damage curve is what keeps you alive, the mitigation is there for those big 3 for 1s or that crucial base damage. Killing them is the best dice removal out there.

Cheers for that! Will keep trying. They definitely have the ability to pull some massive damage but I must just be unlucky with my rolls!
